RAPIDS RUGBY - SCOTLAND TOUR 2025

Why Rugby?

Rapids Rugby provides an inclusive and competitive environment that instills the values of hard work, commitment and teamwork. The benefits of sports for girls cannot be overstated, and the addition of the physicality of rugby only pushes confidence-building to a higher level. Through their participation in sports, girls learn to thrive in competition, see projects through to completion, motivate others, and work as a team. Statistics show they have become some of our strongest leaders, with 94% of women in C-suite positions having played sports in their youth. This spring, we offer the athletes from our U18 team the opportunity to travel to Scotland for a true rugby experience. They will play three games against local teams and be hosted by those clubs for post-match meals. The team will be coached by professional players, tour Scottish landmarks and see some of the world’s top female rugby players play in Edinburgh when Scotland takes on Wales in the Women’s Six Nations tournament on March 22, 2025.

Meet The Team

Anne Lyss Erikson.png

Position: Wing # 14

About: whip, my job is to complete the back plays by running down the sideline scoring tries. My all time favourite part about my position is to dive over that try line for a glorious score, always followed by the cheer and excitement of my teammates.

Keira Johnson.png

Position: Left/Right Wing #11

About: #14 Wings are fast players that finish the hard work of the other members of the team, taking the ball off backs moves and scoring tries. I have both speed and aggression on the field giving me the ability to outpace defenders. I love rugby for the game and community within it.

Madison Hamilton.png

Position: Fullback #15

About: position is where the main job is the last line of defence; however, it is also a big attack role. I like playing full-back because I can make crazy cross-field tackles, and I can watch to see what needs to be done as I have a full view of the field. I’ve played for about 5 years and have grown up around rugby my whole life. I used to watch my mom’s rugby games and started using her moves in soccer until I got kicked out for tackling, and that’s when I joined rugby.

Payton Smith.png

Position: Flanks # 6 T

About: the position of Flanker has a vital role in both defence and attack and often cover almost everywhere on the pitch during the game. I love this position because I can show off my speed and tackling ability, as well as provide support for my teammates.

Shaye Rebeyka.png

Position: Second Row #4/5

About: Second row is a forwards playing position consisting of two players that participates in scrums, line outs, and player pods. I enjoy this position because it allows me to do things other than ball carrying, as well as having a fun element while preforming line outs and scrums.

Kira Mossman.HEIC

Position: Outside Center # 13

About: My name is Kira Mossman and I am 16 years old currently attending Vanier I play outside centre(#13). While Playing this position there is decision making and supporting my teammates. My favourite part about playing this position is being apart of plays with the inside centre. I really enjoy playing rugby because it has an amazing community and I have made so many new friends since I started playing rugby. I really enjoy playing rugby and in the future I plan to apply to UBC and other universities. I love rugby it is such a great sport and I hope to go far with it.

Pippi McRae-King .heic

Position: Flank  #7

Tia Cashin.HEIC

Position: Position Flanker # 6, 7 Prop # 1, 3 Hook #2

About: My job on the field is to be where the ball is. On defence I’m coming hard off the line to pressure the offence and to fight for tackles and in rucks, on offence I’m running the hard lines, sealing rucks, and supporting.  Although I’m a busy individual I also make time for rugby, I love this sport it makes me feel strong, mentally and physically.

Lauren Quinn.png

Position: Flanker/Flank # 6, 7 or 8.

About: The flanker is a forward position and is located in the scrum. While in the scrum, a flanker helps with support and stability. Being a flanker, you are more focused on the contact part, like tackling and rucking. Flankers need to have good agility and speed for support when our teammates run hard lines and make breakthroughs. It’s also important to have strong physicality so you can have good endurance and strength for both offence and defence.

Saskia Morton.heic

Position: Hooker # 2 Flanker # 7 Prop # 2 3

About: I mainly hook! Being a hooker means that I am in the front row-middle of the scrum, and my job within the scrum, is to hook the ball to the second row, and into the back of the scrum to the nine, who then can use it in an attack. Within the line-out, my job is to throw the ball through the  centre of the line out so that my jumpers can swipe it or grab it and then pass it down to the number nine who then sends it to the back, who use it in attack. The best thing about being a hooker is the tackling and getting to throw!

Ava Larrivee’.HEIC

Position: Second Row #4

About: Second rows are positioned behind the front row and they help generate power into the push and stability into the scrum. That is why I love it, I love the intensity of the position and I love that after every game it leaves me feeling like I’ve left it all out on the field.

Aliya Leisch .heic

Position: Scrum Half or Half Back #9

I as well love this position because I like to be the one to slow down the play for a moment. I also love that I am always moving at from ruck to ruck.
